Sun Protection Factor (SPF) is a measure of sunscreen that will protect skin from UVB rays. UVB rays is a radiation that causes sunburn, damages skin, and can contribute to skin cancer.

If your skin normally burns after 10 minutes in the sun, applying an SPF 15 sunscreen would allow you to stay in the sun without burning for approximately 150 minutes. This is an estimate that depends on skin type, intensity of sunlight and amount of sunscreen used.

The SPF scale is not linear: Most dermatologists recommend using a SPF15 or SPF30 sunscreen.

  • SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB Rays

  • SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB Rays

  • SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB Ray

Do I need to use SPF daily?

Skin is an excellent record keeper. Every moment of exposure to daylight at the end will show you the problem is  sun damage (also known as photodamage).

Sun damage shows on skin in the form of wrinkles and hyper pigmentation and can lead to a skin cancer.

The first line of daily defense against sun damage is use of SPF.

Even on cloudy or overcast days, UV light can strike skin and cause damage, so simply wearing sunscreen on sunny days isn’t enough.

Why not use a really high Sun Protection Factor?

Sunscreens with really high SPF such as SPF 75 or  100, does not  really offer greater protection than SPF 30 and mislead people into thinking they have more protection than they actually do.

High SPF sunscreens usually offer far greater UVB than UVA protection thus offering a false sense of full protection.

Find a professional skin therapist to talk about about SPF moisturizers that can be worn comfortably under make-up or alone to deliver defense against skin aging UV light that perfectly suitable your skin.
